A Hodge-podge Collage
It's bedtime. The rest of the house is dark and quiet, but there is a lamp on beside me. I am ensconsed in Dad's big recliner in the living room for the night because I'm trying to organize my room and can't get to my bed at this point. I have a notebook and a pen...
My thoughts are like a hodge-podge collage tonight. Thoughts, colors, people, songs, scenes, events, past, present, future, all layered together and overlapping into a display that, really, is quite beautiful, in spite of the pain that's part of the piece.
Melissa's sadness * "Like An Avalanche" * Law's sweet prayer * Abigail's shirt striped with sequins * Julia saying good-bye * Autumn's joking rebuke that I can't figure out * the black hood of Austin's car * JV kids from last year back this year * seeing my 'brown-eyed boy' in Wal*Mart * "Christ In Me" * music practice last night * 'Multiply' with Joy * Law: "Was that a fat joke Austin?! You did! You just called Kyrie fat." Abigail: "Kyrie, he called you fat! Slap him!" Me: "No!" Austin's look of innocent bewildered confusion * my bedroom I'm wanting to clean out and organize * being behind on my '5 Small Things Friday' posts * wanting to write/journal * Uncle Alvin's family coming to visit * Law's soft shirt and lean hardness when he bumped against my arm * wanting to make things for the fair * hopes for our AWANAs at church * Bro. Nick's lesson tonight - 'Making Decisions for the Glory of God' * Lindy seeming pre-occupied * being hungry and tired * why didn't Archer come to Toby and Lindy's wedding? * not getting to tell Landon 'bye before he left for his year-long mission trip * Passion 2014? * letters to write * hugs from Piper * wearing my hair down * invite pain? reject pain? or forget pain? * "Learning To Be The Light" * VRCA school starting * needing to work on the academy website * What happened to Ashelyn and her husband? * Bro. Dennis and Mrs. Carrie * Bro. Dennis joking like old times at Toby and Lindy's rehearsal supper * ...

"5 Small Things Friday" No. 41

Go back and read this post for the story behind "Five Small Things Friday".
For this week, here is my list:
1. Sight: Late-afternoon Sun And Scenery
2. Hearing: Dad Playing The Piano
3. Smell:
4. Taste: Trissy's Gumbo
5. Touch: Crocheting
The stories behind the list:
1. The late-afternoon sun-and-pasture scene I tell about towards the end of this post.
2. When I was a very little kid, I can remember Dad playing hymns at the piano while Trissy and I went to sleep in the next room. He is not what you'd call an 'accomplished' pianist, but he is extremely meticulous, and has a wonderful soothing touch. Over the years, we've loved it when he sits down to play a hymn or two, especially since he doesn't do it much. Saturday he was passing through the living room, and sat down at the piano and played a little bit. He's usually just played whatever hymn the hymnal was open to on the piano (though "Oh Come, Angel Band" was his favorite, and he often looks it up especially), and this time it was "I Gave My Life For Thee". We really need to get him to play more.
3.
4. Trissy made chicken gumbo and rice this week and it was actually very good! Very good! I was surprised; I'm not usually a gumbo fan, but this had just the right mix of spices and was really delicious. Trissy's getting to be quite a cook.
5. I crocheted a scarf this week, to enter in the fair in September. What a wonder to be able to feel the texture of the yarn, to be able to control the hook, to guide the pattern so it comes out into a finished, usable item! How God provided the number of fingers on the human hand that He knew would be most beneficial, how He arranged the nerves to be so sensitive to feel, how He enabled the mental and the physical to work together so effortlessly to accomplish a task - it's amazing.

2010 County Fair Pictures
In my post HERE, a few weeks ago, I sortof promised pictures from the County Fair, but I never got them posted. So, I am going to take a few minutes and upload a few of the many pictures I took Fair week!
At/in the livestock exhibit building:

(I love this picture!)

In the handwork exhibit building:

Some of my entered items:

This one was quite a challenge! I saw a 'wren house' at Wal*Mart, and since I love wrens, birdhouses, woodworking, and crafting in general, I asked Dad if he could coach me through making my own! It didn't turn out quite like I imagined, but better than I thought :) ! Sorry the picture's blurry:

These few images are by no means an exhaustive example of all the events and displays that go on at the Fair! There is also a Mule Pull (whose team of mules can pull the most weight), a Horse Show, a Pet Show, a Prettiest Rooster Contest, and lots more at the barn, besides all the crafts, crops, plants, Blueberry Desert Contest, Made In This County clothing contest, and more in the exhibit building!
But I wanted to give you a peak into the fun an flurry that is Fair Week around here! :)
